A Real Estate Concern-Hawaii is now one of Kona’s oldest and most respected companies. The real estate brokerage firm was established in 1980 by its principal broker, Arnold Rabin (R, GRI).

The company is located in Kainaliu. It is a member of the National Association of Realtors, Kona Board of Realtors and the Honolulu Board of Realtors.

There are five other realtors in the company, servicing both the Big Island and Oahu. Miriam Rabin, Arnie’s daughter is a third generation realtor and also teaches second grade on Oahu. HIEDB sponsoring trash conference

The Hawaii Island Economic Development Board hosts a “Talking Trash” conference Saturday at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows.

The conference offers an opportunity for the community to explore the many challenges to the island’s waste stream. Topics to be discussed include finding money in recycling, curbside recycling, incorporating green building principals into future projects for Hawaii Island and the benefits of organic diversion here on island.

The registration fee is $55, which includes a continental breakfast and lunch.

New farmer classes begin on May 23

The New Farmer Workshop Series, created by the University of Hawaii College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (CTAHR) Cooperative Extension Service, is a series of 15 classes to be held at the Kona CTAHR Cooperative Extension Service office in Kainaliu.

The classes meet on consecutive Tuesdays from 9 a.m.-noon, beginning May 23. Instructors from the University of Hawaii and specialists from the community will be teaching the following classes in their areas of expertise: “Introduction to Coffee Growing and Processing,” “Composting With Worms,” “Disease Identification and Management,” “Tropical Fruits: Creative Marketing and Post-Harvest Care,” “Plant Nutrition and Fertilizer,” “Plant Propagation,” “Researching Agricultural Opportunities on the Internet,” “Business Planning,” “Pesticide Safety,” “Agroforestry Introduction, “Cacao Growing and Processing,” “Insect Identification and Management,” “Pruning Primer,” “Soil Basics” and “Soil Fertility.”
